  • USH Election

    After a week of campaigning, the election for Head Boy and Head Girl finally arrived last week. Through the candidates videos, visits to tutor groups and electioneering, the  majority of students were ready to cast their votes and knew who they wanted to win.

    Throughout the morning on election day, all students and staff were given the opportunity to express their democratic right to vote and have their opinion heard.  Just like a real election, the students were signed in at the polling station, given their ballot papers which they took to the booths to mark with an X.

    After voting closed, the job of counting over 1500 began, and our new Head Boy Isaac R, and Head Girl Ruby H were elected, with the remaining candidates receiving spots in the student senior leadership team.

     

  • Silver Sports Mark Award

    As a school we have achieved the ‘Silver Sports Mark Award’.  To achieve this we have to provide evidence that our students are offerred a wide range of opportunities in sport inside and outside of school. For the number of students we have at the school we enter more leagues and competitions than many others in the Southampton area. This award also commends the school on the wide variety of sports we offer in our curriculum catering for all ability levels. We are one of a few schools to have been awarded this in the area.

    We are very proud to have received this award for the 3rd year in a row .

     

  • Word Millionaires!

    It is so good to see so many students in Years 7 and 8 making such excellent progress with their reading and with Accelerated Reader. Since September, students have passed over 5,000 Accelerated Reader quizzes and read a staggering 211,143,034 words! Many students have achieved their termly reading targets. Each time they do this, students earn 50 achievement points, which contribute to their end of year total and eligibility for the It’s A Knockout reward event.

    This year we already have a record 55 Word Millionaires, and there are a further 9 students who have read over 900,000 words, who will hopefully achieve a million by the end of term. These amazing readers are all awarded a lapel badge at the end of term celebration assemblies, and their names are displayed on our Millionaires wall. It is so good to see so many students wearing their Word Millionaire badges with pride.

  • Congratulations Corey!

    Well done to Corie W who took part in a Gymnastics competition earlier in the month and was awarded 1st place in the Vault, Floor and Trampet events.

  • Sporting Success at Hampshire Schools Athletics

    Well done to Olivia A who achieved 1st  place in the Hampshire schools athletics championships with a distance of 34m.60 in the Discus.  Congratulations also to Henry B who achieved 1st place in the same event in the 200m with a time of 24.5.

  • Year 7 Camping Trip to Tile Barn

    We are pleased to confirm that everyone who has paid a deposit for Tile Barn has a place on the trip.

    A letter with more information, including the next payment date, will be sent home next week.

    Staff and students are getting excited about going back-to-basics for some old school fun. Eggs and spoons are packed. Watch this space…

  • Update on the 2019 Paris Trip

    Update on the 2019 Paris Trip

    Many thanks to all parents of students who are coming with us on the Paris trip this October who have paid and handed in student medical and passport forms so far. The next instalment of payment for this trip is due on Monday 24th June in the sum of £75, and the medical and passport forms need to be returned to Mr Smith in MFL5 by the end of June at the very latest. Please get in touch with Mr Smith (jack.smith@ushschool.org) if you have any questions.

  • Shoe Box Appeal

    Over the next month, USH will be running a shoebox appeal for years 7, 8 and 9.

    The purpose of the appeal is to help the homeless in Southampton and will be in support of the Two Saints Charity and homeless shelter based in Millbrook.

     

    The charities mission is to significantly improve the lives of those who are homeless, vulnerable or in need of support by providing high quality, effective and reliable housing, support and learning services. More information can be found at www.twosaints.org.uk.

    Each tutor group will have a shoebox and we are kindly asking for your help to fill them. We are looking for voluntary donations of the following items:

     

    •       New and unopened toiletries

    o   Toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, flannels, shower gel, shampoo, wet wipes, deodorant, tissues etc.

    •       Clean men’s or ladies socks – (new if possible)

    •       Hats, gloves and scarves

    •       Basic snack type food – instant noodles and pasta, crisps, breakfast bars etc.

    •       Colouring books and colouring pencils

    The deadline for donations is 5th July and all of your donations are greatly appreciated.  They will go towards helping support our community.
