• Grandparents Open Morning, 11th November

  On Friday 11th November we would like students to invite their Grandparents into school to give them the opportunity to join our Remembrance Day Commemoration and to have a tour of the school.

  On the day we would like Grandparents to arrive at 10.50am.  They will be able to join in observing the one minute silence with staff and students and following the commemoration, Grandparents will have the opportunity to have a look around our School.  Tea and cake will be available at the end of the tours and we will close our doors to visitors at 12.30pm.  We will be asking students for visitor numbers closer to the event so that we can make the necessary arrangements.

  Please do encourage Grandparents to come along to this event.

  

• Paris, October 2016

  Day 1
  There’s nothing like an early wake up call to start the journey!  We met at school and were away by 6am with everyone in good spirits.  After a calm (for most) boat crossing, we arrived on the outskirts of Paris in the rain and settled into our hotel.
  “The hotel and restaurant were very good.”
  “The buffet for breakfast was great.”
  “The hotel was clean and tidy.”

  Day 2
  We set out at 9am to catch the overland train towards Paris and change onto the Metro line.
  “Double decker trains!”
  “We went to Paris on a cool double decker train!”
  “I loved the trains!”
  Certainly a challenge moving 84 students around a big city by train, but it was clearly a big hit with the students.

  Onto the Eiffel Tower – heightened security as we’d expected, but around half the students made it to the top.
  “I liked going to the top of the Eiffel Tower because it was a new experience.  I went to the top.”
  “I though the Eiffel Tower had a great view.”
  “The view was amazing!”

  Back on the train to Sacre Coeur and Montmatre, the artists quarter where many students took the opportunity to get a portrait done.
  “When we went to the Artists quarter, I got my face drawn.”
  “The Artists quarter was good as you could look around at all the art without buying anything.”

  A long day and after a meal in town, the coach drivers braved the Arc de Triomphe and got us safely back to our hotel.

  Day 3
  Anticipation, excitement….  It could only be Disney.  Huge cheers on the bus as we arrived in the car park!!!!
  “I really enjoyed going to Disneyland, it was a great experience, especially the Rock ‘n Rollin’ roller coaster.”
  “Disney was one of the best days!  I had lots of fun throughout the day especially on the Tower of Terror.  I was quite scared to go on the ride but I loved every minute!!!  This day created loads of memories, I loved it!”

  Day 4
  An adventure free day travelling home, we could all breath a sigh of relief.

  Final thoughts…
  “Walking around Paris and experiencing the culture throughout the day was really interesting.”
  “I enjoyed going to the Eiffel Tower as even if you only ventured to the first or second floor, the view was amazing.”
  “France was really entertaining and I enjoyed visiting the Eiffel Tower and Sacre Coeur.”

  What can I say?  The final evening awards reflect some of the moments we will all cherish – best dressed, most grown up, most questions, most likely to lose something, most likely to fall out  of their bed…
  Students had to deal with their own money and budget for the 4 days, organise and keep their rooms tidy, be places on time, get on and off trains at the right place, order food…  The list goes on!  A worthwhile trip to a beautiful city that has been through a lot, and despite all that has happened, retains its sheer beauty and mystery.

• UN Flag Ceremony, Southampton Civic Centre

  This Friday we visited the Civic Centre in Southampton for the United Nations Flag Raising Ceremony. The event was very special and moving, and gave us all time to reflect on the Aberfan Disaster 50 years ago. After the Ceremony we had time to mingle with dignitaries and listen to a very interesting speech from Richard Nelmes, Deputy director of the United Nations Association UK. The talk covered lots of topics that the UN are currently tackling, it also got us thinking about how as a school we can do our part for the UN. We will be taking this experience back to school and talking in the school council, and hopefully come up with some ideas of how we can promote world and UN issues in the future.

• New York City Trip

• Netball News

  Another week of excellent results from the U14 and U16 netball teams. They have been working hard at training defensively and this is really showing in their ability to turn over the ball. Well done to the Year 11 girls who are managing their academic commitments enough to allow them to play.

• Football News (Hampshire Cup)

  The Year 9s boys travelled to the Isle of Wight to face a team from Christ the King School in Newport.  USH won the fixture by 6 goals to 2 with four goals from Ewan Haylor and one each from Sam Bowan and Demar Martin.  Well done to the team; the next fixture is home to either Cams Hill or Crestwood in the next round.
